Mežaparka Rezidences places time capsules in three villas designed by Latvian architects

On 16 May 2017, times capsules were placed in the foundations of three villas in Mežaparka Rezidences designed by Latvian architects – a traditional gesture for future generations.

The event was attended by developer Domuss director Ralfs Jansons and his team, architects for villa CAMELLIA (Gatis Didrihsons), villa LAVANDA (Atis Caune), and villa HELENIA (Reinis Liepiņš) with their teams, general construction company Selva Būve director Rolands Orlovskis, and Baltic Sotheby’s International Realty board member Ilze Mazurenko.

Those present congratulated Mežaparka Rezidences on the successful completion of the initial building stage of the new villas and reminisced about the first days of project planning and development stages. The time capsules include a copy of today’s issue of the newspaper Diena and a one-euro coin.

Mežaparka Rezidences – living space of the highest quality, which combines the infrastructure of a modern city with the vistas of a garden city, is being developed in Mežaparks between quiet Kokneses prospekts and busy Gustava Zemgala gatve. The territory covers 31 ha. To date, the first phase is complete: infrastructure and landscaping includes well-lit, interlocking brick streets and sidewalks, and all utilities. Building of the first villa CORYLUS (architect Vlad Arsene, USA) will be complete by June and the three villas for which building has just begun should be complete by the end of this year. The next stage will be apartment buildings and row houses. The project also offers plots for sale upon which the purchasers can build themselves.

“When we acquired this property, the existing plan called for 17 to 24-storey-high buildings. We respected the history of the area and opted for low-rise construction. We believe in saving this space and its garden-like scape by building private homes in a scenic setting,” said Domuss director Ralfs Jansons.

Selva Būve director R.Orlovskis noted: “We are proud of our accomplishments, such as Felicity Apartments, and our long-standing ability to participate in such interesting and beautiful projects – Mežaparka Rezidences. By cooperating and building professional high-quality buildings, we will create an even more beautiful Mežaparks and Riga!”

“I am pleased by this development concept, which projects the development of an area of the city by keeping the local garden traditions alive, yet simultaneously ensuring homeowners outstanding architecture and quality living space,” added Ilze Mazurenko, Baltic Sotheby’s International Realty board member.

As villa CAMELLIA architect Gatis Didrihsons noted, “I already feel at home here. You get the sense of being in a field, through which my dog Arčibalds regularly chases a few rabbits and where I regularly come for walks – here through historic Mežaparks. It’s a different place, but with time, people’s needs also change. Now, density and compactness go hand in hand with functionality, energy efficiency, and modern elegance. Yet people still love privacy and a garden scape.”

Architect Reinis Liepiņš on villa HELENIA: “The client envisioned his villa as a continuation of the garden city scape – the original plan of Mežaparks. The building is designed as a classical villa, but in a minimalist style. Its rectangular spaces face the south along the green rise, continuing the Mežaparks building tradition – combining the park scape with the grace of architectural form. It is a transformation of the classic villa into modern forms. It is no secret that anyone would feel good living here, because the deeper purpose is to offer peace and harmony in today’s fast-paced world.”

Architect Atis Caune on villa LAVANDA: “The villa was imagined and created in a beautiful time period, when the nation is at peace and Riga continues to grow, developing new territories for its inhabitants. Just like the smell of lavender in bloom and its discreet color palette, this home will enthrall you with its casual elegance and homey comfort!”
